Hi, I’m Nicole.

My first art class was during my third year in high school - at the same time I was transitioning out of a math and science focus to become an engineer, and into art and psychology. I vividly remember my first class involved “shading” in an object of choice, to which I decided on an elephant. My finger diligently smudged the graphite across what turned out to be an elephant-dog hybrid, internally wondering if I chose the wrong class.

My art teacher pretty explicitly wondered the same thing. That initial doubt evolved into a relationship with art. I loved everything about it. I loved how it challenged me and begged me to be more patient, and I loved how it captured what I otherwise couldn’t seem to fully communicate. I have never been verbally profound with my words - typically rambling words together in attempt to voice a thought. But writing and art were always more accessible for me.

I learned technique and skill - how to stipple to create depth and dimension, how to cross hatch and shade in ways that the elephant-dog hybrid would be proud of. Art is pretty bound-less in general, but I ironically found myself rule-bound when it came to drawing. Picking up paints, however, asked me to let go of that. It was free of rules and structure for me, something I didn’t feel too often. So naturally, I found a lot of love in fluid art - how it was so unrestricted in ways I wasn’t.

The art I share on my site - to simply look at or to display on your own walls - is an invitation to my mind, emotions, stories, and my love of art.
